ANTONIO MUÑIZ is an artist driven by the pursuit of metaphysical inquiry. Born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, the self-taught painter approaches the act of painting as a space for awakening, where intuition and material process intersect.

Central to Muñiz’s practice is fumage, the use of smoke applied directly to the canvas. Each work begins with this autonomic gesture. Smoke is guided but not controlled, allowing chance and unconscious movement to establish the initial structure of the composition.

Working through physical engagement rather than premeditated design, Muñiz treats the canvas as a site of transformation. Fixed ideas are tested and unsettled. The process resists certainty, inviting instability, chance, and emergence to shape the work. What results is not an image imposed on the surface, but one that arises from a confrontation with unpredictability itself.
