ASTRID CABRAL FÉLIX DE SOUSA (born 1936) is a novelist, critic, environmentalist, diplomat, and one of Brazil's most important contemporary poets. She is the author of numerous poetry books, including Anteroom (2007), Coração à solta (2021), and Gazing Through Water (2021), along with many collections of essays and short fiction. Astrid was born in Manaus, Amazonas. She has also lived and worked as a diplomat in Beirut and Chicago and taught in the United States and Brazil. She’s a mother of five and resides in Rio de Janeiro, where she continues to work as a figure in the Amazonian cultural identity and recovery movement. She was awarded multiple national and international prizes, including the National Poetry Award in 1998 and again in 2004.
