MICHAEL HOWER is a photographer based in Harrisburg, PA. In 2012, he discovered his interest in photography after picking up a digital camera for the first time, and he has since become a self-taught artist. Photography reignited his long-dormant love for the arts.
Michael’s work centers on historical themes, exploring abandoned spaces where human activity has ceased. His photographs capture industrial sites, prisons, and graffiti-covered structures, illustrating the passage of time and nature's slow reclamation of manmade environments. Through his lens, he reveals these spaces' wear, decay, and transformation, blending architectural and natural landscapes.
His work has been featured in over two hundred exhibitions and publications. Recent achievements include being featured in Essential Voices: A COVID-19 Anthology and winning first prize for photography in the 2023 “Art of the State” exhibit at the State Museum of Pennsylvania.
