KATJA GOREČAN (1989) graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory. Additionally, she earned a Master’s degree in Dramaturgy and Performing Arts from the University of Ljubljana’s Academy for Theater, Directing, Film, and Television. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in art in pedagogy from the Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana.
Gorečan began her literary career at the tender age of seventeen with the poetry collection Angels of the Same Origin (Angeli istega porekla). Her second collection, The Sufferings of Young Hana (Trpljenje mlade Hane), published in 2012, was nominated for the prestigious Jenko Award and selected for the 15th Mediterranea Young Artists Biennale. In 2017, Gorečan published a collection of choreopoems entitled Some Nights Some Girls Are Dying Somewhere (Neke noči neke deklice nekje umirajo).
In 2023, Gorečan participated in the Shadow Pandemic; Hidden Voices project (a co-production between the Zagreb Youth Theatre (Croatia), Maribor Theatre Festival (Slovenia), and Belgrade Drama Theatre (Serbia), where she won an award for her work Aktivistke (Activists). In 2022, she published her debut novel entitled Maternity Booklet (Materinska knjižica), which earned her a nomination for the Kritiško Sito Award, Kersnik Award, and Cankar Award.
