ANNA HULTH, in her own words:
I am based in Gothenburg, Sweden, and I have a broad education in many different artistic expressions: photography, text, film, and cultural project management. I received an MFA in Craft; and Textile Art from HDK-Valand, Gothenburg (2022).
I suffer from a recurring desire to get closer to the unknown. To get closer to the things I cannot see, and yet it fills my chest with concern. That feeling that is so difficult to control and to understand. That feeling which scares me.
I work mainly with analog photography, where I patiently try to approach a narrative of emotions. By transferring my photographs to a tactile material, I can allow myself to get even closer to an eerier state of mind. I use layers; I add them and erase them; physical layers of charcoal, fragile flowers, and hair. The layers create a distance, a space that, consequently, opens a narrow path into the unknown.
I am a minimalist; I do not want to show too much, I want the viewer to piece the narrative together. Behind each work, whether it is in a photograph, a video, or other media, there is more than what is seen and said. There's a part of me, struggling at the surface.
Through my art I want the individual to feel included but also to create a dialogue about contemporary demands and expectations on her/him/them. By being honest and lifting my problems with the help of art, I hope you -viewer, and reader- will meet me.
