VANJA BUČAN (1973) is a Slovenian photographer and visual artist based in Berlin. She studied Documentary Photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, and later shifted from traditional documentary work to staged and performative photography. Before turning to art, she earned a degree in environmental sociology at the University of Ljubljana and was active in environmental movements. That background continues to shape the ideas and visual language of her practice.

Bučan has received major international awards and nominations, and her work has been shown at art fairs, festivals, and biennials around the world. In 2023, she represented Slovenia by creating the environmental artwork that covered Vienna’s Ringturm, The Wandering Icebergs. Her first monograph, Catch Nature, was published in 2024.
