BELINDA HAIKES is a conceptually driven interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the metaphors of Americana, place, and the role of technology in shaping our connections. Her perspective is influenced by her transnational journey—born in South Africa, she immigrated to Canada as a toddler before moving to the Deep South during high school.

Haikes holds a Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University, where her dissertation explored the formation of intimacy in art through technology. Her writings have been published in Hz Journal and Media-N Online Journal. Passionate about the intersections of America, technology, and landscape, her creative work has been exhibited and screened at institutions including the Ackland Museum (Chapel Hill, NC), the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, the NMC 10 Traveling Exhibition, Lightworks (Grimsby, UK), and most recently, in a solo show at the CICA Museum (Gimpo, South Korea).

She works with the Sanarchy Group, an international collective of academics exploring new media alongside their students. Currently, Haikes serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Design and Creative Technology at The College of New Jersey. She lives in the indistinct space of suburban central New Jersey, reflecting on what it means to be American.
