GONZAGA GÓMEZ-CORTÁZAR ROMERO , originally from Bilbao, Spain, is an artist based in New York City whose practice focuses on the ephemerality of the environment and its deep connection to the passage of time. Working across video, photography, installation, and performance, he highlights the transient nature of our world, transforming the familiar into something transcendent. His work delves into landscapes, restoring and honoring humanity’s profound bond with the Earth and its elements.
Gonzaga’s art has been displayed across multiple continents, with exhibitions at COP21, COP26, COP27, and COP29 as part of IkonoTV’s ArtSpeaksOut program. His projects have appeared in galleries and festivals worldwide, underscoring his commitment to environmental themes. In 2015, he co-founded A La Luz, an international platform promoting environmentally focused art. Its flagship curatorial project, Points of Return, began as an online initiative and later evolved into a large-scale multimedia exhibition at The Umbrella Arts Center in Concord, Massachusetts.
Gonzaga studied Communication at the University of the Basque Country. He was also awarded an Erasmus grant to study at Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris and a Leonardo Da Vinci grant in Lisbon.
