SCHOOL LUNCH
As a figurative painter, my imagery is deeply rooted in direct observation, memory, and personal experience. SCHOOL LUNCH serves as a visual essay, capturing contemporary student life in authentic educational environments. This series delves into the essence of human relationships and explores cross-cultural and social issues through the shared school lunch experience in the U.S.
The genesis of my paintings lies in on-site observations, where I sketch individuals in real-time within lunchrooms and campuses of high schools and colleges. Every person depicted in my work is drawn from life—an authentic portrait crafted in the moment with graphite and pastel pencils. These initial drawings evolve into the vibrant, evocative paintings that form the series.
As a visiting artist on college campuses, I am allowed to immerse myself in a wide range of activities. This engagement enhances my ability to capture the dynamic energy and nuanced interactions of these environments.
SCHOOL LUNCH aims to foster a deeper humanistic awareness through imagery that resonates throughout the U.S. In a society defined by its diversity, visual art holds the power to transform perceptions, affirm cultural identity, and validate shared experiences.
